A home should be a safe and welcoming refuge from the difficulties of daily life, but people with disabilities can face harassment and discrimination solely because of their disability.
We advocate for integration and community living for people who were previously forced to live in institutions. We promote and defend the rights of people with disabilities to live in safe and accessible housing.
Housing Rights
In 1988 Congress extended the protections of the 1968 Fair Housing Act to include people with disabilities. Disability Law Colorado helps people advocate for their own housing rights.
We also negotiate with landlords and housing authorities, we take legal action when necessary, and we press for system changes to improve policies and funding for affordable, accessible, supportive housing.
